Brigadier General Scott Naumann received his commission as an Infantry officer from the United States Military Academy in 1996. His first assignment was with the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and S3 Air. In 1999, he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Airborne Division and served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commanding General for Operations.

Following completion of the Armor Officer Advanced Course in 2000, General Naumann moved to Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served as the Battalion Assistant S3 and B Company Commander in the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker), 2nd Infantry Division. In 2003, he was assigned to 2nd Ranger Battalion where he served as the Battalion Assistant S3 during multiple combat deployments to Afghanistan between 2003 and 2005. Later, COL Naumann commanded C Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, during a combat deployment to Iraq in 2006.

After completing Intermediate Level Education in 2008, General Naumann was assigned to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, with the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. During this tour, he served as the Squadron S3 and later as the Brigade S3 during the Brigade’s combat deployment to Iraq from 2008 to 2009. Following redeployment, General Naumann served as the Brigade Executive Officer and later deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.

In August 2011, General Naumann reported to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as the Task Force All American Chief of Plans (Rear). He assumed command of 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, in February 2012. Following battalion command, General Naumann was selected as an Army War College Fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Upon completion of his fellowship in June 2015, General Naumann reported to Fort Drum, New York, where he assumed command of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. He subsequently led the brigade during its 2015-2016 deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In June 2017, General Naumann was selected as the Chief of Staff, 10th Mountain Division. This past March, he deployed with the Division Headquarters to Iraq to serve as the Chief of Staff, Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command Operation Inherent Resolve. Currently, he is serving as the Deputy Commanding Officer - Support for the 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

General Naumann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Military History from the United States Military Academy and a master’s in Diplomacy and Security Studies from Hawaii Pacific University.
